Branding Your Hotel Textiles: Embroidery vs Woven Logos

Embroidered and woven logo branding on hotel towels and robes — MONNEVA

Your logo on a towel or robe is one of the most intimate touchpoints your brand has with a guest — it’s in their hands, every day of their stay. But how that logo gets onto the textile matters enormously, both for how it looks and for how it survives hundreds of commercial wash cycles. There are three main ways to brand hospitality textiles, and choosing the right one comes down to your property type, wash frequency, and the look you’re after.

The Three Main Methods

1. Embroidery — The logo is stitched onto the surface of the finished textile with thread. It creates a raised, three-dimensional, premium look that guests associate with quality. It’s ideal for detailed logos and monograms, works on almost any fabric, and allows a full range of thread colors.

2. Jacquard / Woven-In Logo (embossed relief) — Instead of adding thread on top, the design is woven directly into the fabric during production, using the terry loops themselves to form a tone-on-tone relief. The logo becomes structurally part of the towel. The result is subtle, elegant, and modern — and exceptionally durable.

3. Woven Label — A separate label, woven on a loom with the design integrated into it, then sewn onto the item. Common for care/brand tags, it packs fine detail and text into a small, durable strip.

Durability: The Deciding Factor for Hospitality

This is where the choice really matters, because commercial laundering is brutal.

  • Embroidery looks premium, but the raised stitches can snag, and lower-quality thread may fray after roughly 40–50 high-temperature washes. Done right — with industrial, bleach-resistant polyester thread and proper placement — it holds up well.
  • Jacquard / woven-in logos survive 100+ wash cycles without visible degradation, because there’s no surface thread to wear away. There’s also no thread buildup, so the towel stays fully absorbent.

For high-turnover properties, the woven-in approach is often the smarter long-term investment. For boutique and luxury settings where the raised, crafted look matters most, quality embroidery earns its place.

Getting Embroidery Right

If you go with embroidery, a few details separate a crisp logo from a disappointing one:

  • Placement. The flat dobby border (the woven strip at the towel’s end) is the safest, cleanest surface. Embroidering directly on the terry pile requires a “knockdown” base stitch to flatten the loops first — otherwise the logo gets lost in the fluff.
  • Size. Keep logos modest — roughly under 10 cm on hand towels, 15 cm on bath towels. Anything larger creates a stiff patch that feels unpleasant against the skin.
  • Thread. Industrial bleach-resistant thread is essential for anything facing commercial laundry.

Match the Method to Your Property

A quick way to decide:

  • Boutique hotels & luxury suites → embroidery or subtle tonal work, where the crafted, premium look leads.
  • High-turnover resorts & chains → jacquard woven-in logos, for zero-fade durability across heavy laundering.
  • Spas & wellness → understated tone-on-tone branding, calm rather than bold.
  • All properties → a woven brand/care label as a consistent finishing touch.

And a note on restraint: in hospitality, branding is usually understated. The goal is to reinforce a premium experience, not to crowd the textile with a loud logo. The best branding feels like part of the product, not a sticker on top of it.

The MONNEVA Approach

We offer embroidery, jacquard woven-in logos, and woven labels — and, just as importantly, the guidance to choose between them. Our team will tell you if a logo placement won’t hold up or a design is too large for comfort, rather than simply taking the order. With Pantone color matching and made-to-order production, you can brand a boutique run or a full property program to the same standard — whether that is a promotional and corporate gift run or a hotel towel programme.
